Mary “Annetta” Richburg Jernigan
Mary “Annetta” Richburg Jernigan went home to the Lord on March 1, 2021 after 77 years of wonderful, philanthropic life. Annetta was born in 1943 in Brewton, AL, to John and Vera Richburg. She was the oldest of three, followed by John David and Vera Fay. Annetta’s family spent her childhood in Mobile, AL, and her teenage years in Castleberry, AL. Her senior year, the family returned to Brewton, but Annetta stayed in Castleberry where she met the man of her dreams. On November 19, 1960, at just 17, Annetta married Johnny Jernigan, and they began their Cinderella story! Over the next 60 years, they built a life and a legacy that will live on through us all. Through hard work, prayer, patience, and faith, they raised two beautiful, empowered daughters, Karen and Kristy. These daughters gave her more comfort and joy than words can describe. Annetta’s love for her daughters was followed by an unwavering love and support for her grandchildren. Annetta was loved by many for many great reasons. Her work in the local deaf community was unparalleled. Her lifelong commitment to Myrtle Grove Baptist Church changed innumerable lives and souls. Annetta was well known for her love, style, art, faith, and endurance. Annetta is preceded in passing by her parents and brother. She is survived by her husband, daughters, sons-in-laws, grandchildren, sister, nephews, nieces, and so many others who she considered and treated as family.
